Well, it’s that time again. PASS Summit 2018 is right around the corner and thousands of SQL professionals will be gathered together to network and learn. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you should be attending!
PASS Summit is a conference where you will see and meet your mentors, MVP’s that you follow, other DBA’s or developers that you hear from on forums, etc. Now is the time to network and form friendships, not to mention learn from the best in the industry. The pre-con sessions are an eight hour deep dive into whichever subject interests you most and are completely worth the extra money. The main sessions last anywhere from 45 minutes to several hours depending on the topic and are typically very informative and get your brain moving in directions you hadn’t thought of before. I always come back with pages and pages of notes that I form into a coherent debrief for management, so they know I was paying attention. And if you pick sessions that really mean something to the challenges of your business, you can come back a hero!
Outside of the sessions, there are all kinds of hosted breakfasts, lunches, dinners, parties and off-time hangouts to help decompress after a long day of being a sponge. This is really the time to make contacts and friends that you can hope to see every year.
So check out my previous PASS Summit post here, where I talk about how to get your boss to say yes!
